Henderson Web Crime Map Help
Start Tab
Start here! The Henderson Web Crime Map application begins with the start tab where help information
about how to create maps and reports of recent crimes in your area.
- Begin your search by selecting the Crime Type tab (or Next button) to select what crime types to map.
- Continue by selecting the Select A Location tab (or Next button) to identify where to look for crime incidents.
- Click on the Search button to search for crimes using the criteria you specified.
Navigate between tabs using the
Next and
Prev buttons, or by selecting the next available tab.
- Use the Next button to move to the next tab.
- The Prev button will be available to move to a tab you have previously visited.
- The Search button will become available when you have made enough selections to conduct a search. This will take you to a map showing the crime incidents you have selected.
- The Help button displays this help document at any time.
Crime Type Tab
What Crime Type are you looking for? The
Crime Type tab allows you to focus your search on one crime type, or map all crimes. Select an individual crime type by clicking on a radio button. Select all crimes at once by using the
Select All Crimes button. Use the
Next button to move on to the
Select A Location tab. Use the
Prev button to move to the previous tab.
Select A Location Tab
Where do you want to look for crimes? The
Select A Location tab allows you to identify the geographic location to search for crime incidents. Three geographic search methods are available:
- Use Near An Address to find crimes with in proximity of an address or intersection.
- Use Near A Landmark to find crimes with in a specified distance of a landmark or map feature.
- Use With in A Zip Code to find crimes with in a Zip Code.
Searching For Crime Incidents Near An Address
To find crime incidents near a valid address or intersection, complete the following steps:
- Click on the Select An Address tab.
- Enter in a Street Address such as "225 W Sunset Rd" or a Street such as "Sunset Rd" and Cross Street such as "Stephanie St" in the two lines provided.
- Click the Next button. Use the Prev button to move to the previous tab.
If the address can be located, the map will be centered on that location and the map will zoom to a buffer of the selected size.
Searching For Crime Incidents Near A Landmark
To find crime incidents near a landmark location, such as a school or park, complete the following steps:
- Click on the Select A Landmark tab.
- Select a landmark layer from the layers list.
- Select the desired landmark name from the names list.
- Click the Next button. Use the Prev button to move to the previous tab.
The map will be centered on the desired landmark and the map will zoom to a buffer of the selected size.
Searching For Crimes With in A Zip Code
To find crime incidents with in a Zip Code, complete the following steps:
- Click on the Select A Zip Code tab.
- Select the desired Zip Code from the list.
- Click the Next button. Use the Prev button to move to the previous tab.
The map will zoom to the Zip Code area.
